Case Studies

Welbeck Miners Welfare F.C:

The objectives of this development project is to construct a number of community sports & recreation facilities on the disused cricket field and surrounding areas to the rear of the welfare social club building:

1. To provide more high quality football facilities to enable the club to have a permanent ‘home’ base for its 17 teams.

2. To enable the football club to meet its ambition to become a successful FA Community Club in line with its published 5 year development plan and play a key part in developing the game in the area.

3. To provide sports facilities that are community orientated and indeed can be used for other sports in addition to football.

4. To provide a children’s play area to attract young families to the site.

Following extensive community consultation with welfare members, internal sports clubs and external elected representatives, members of the community, representative community groups and associations the following new facilities and services are proposed:

* One full size natural turf football pitch to Football Association standard.

* One ¾ size junior natural turf football pitch to FA standard.

* Overlay of two mini soccer pitches for under 10’s & Under 8’s

* A floodlit Multi Use Games Area (MUGA).

* A 4 changing room pavilion which meets Sport England & FA standards

* A toddlers play area with the latest play equipment for the under 8’s

* Appropriate ground works, electrical connections, landscaping and security measures to facilitate the above

* A12 month activity programme coordinated by a Community Development Worker (CDW) to ‘kick start’ the usage of the new facilities. It is envisaged that these activities will be provided free of charge.
